The Journey of Many Roads
Leaving behind countless paths,
I set forth on this one.
No desire for a destination,
Immersed only in the journey.
Trees, streams, lakes, ponds,
Unseen until now,
Scattered along the way—
Their strange intoxication
Filled my veins with awe.
I left behind countless lives,
Yet lived this one fully.
Through sorrow and joy, sun and shade,
I embraced it all.
I never pondered what was lost—
Friends and companions
Never drift far from the heart,
Their presence lingers.
We shared countless lives—
Within this single life.
And how many things slipped away?
Every encounter,
Desired or unbidden,
Felt detached, serene, at peace.
Each road bore its own climbs and falls,
Each life its sunlit days and shadows.
In what is passed, what is lost—
Does not fuel time’s flame,
Nor flows life’s stream.
I lay my foundation on what I have found,
And build my nest anew.
